Curry Rivel Music holds an annual series of concerts in the wonderful setting of St Andrew’s Church, Curry Rivel, near Langport, Somerset, a tradition which has been established for forty-five years.
Concerts start at 7 pm. There is an interval with tea, coffee or wine.
Programmes are based on classical repertoire ranging from early music through classical (Bach, Mozart, etc.), to 21st century works, and are always varied and interesting. A wide range of professional artists, ranging from string quartets and wind ensembles to duos and solo recitalists, perform a diverse range of music to suit all tastes.
One aim of Curry Rivel Music is to encourage young musicians, which always pays off handsomely, not just in the quality of the music (which is never less than superb), and the intensity of the performance, but also gives us the chance to see great musicians just before they become really famous: for example, we have hosted several past and future winners of the BBC Young Musician of the Year awards.
The atmosphere is always welcoming and relaxed, with plenty of chance to chat over coffee and wine in the interval.
As well as being a wonderful building, in the classic Somerset church style, St Andrews has a great acoustic, which really enhances the music.
Curry Rivel Music holds a series of four or more concerts during the season. In line with our educational aims, we arrange a group workshop each season in one of the local schools.

Curry Rivel Music (formerly Curry Rivel Music Club) was formed in 1979 by the then Rector of St. Andrew’s Church, Canon John Simpson. We were very sad to hear of his death in April. Over the years, audiences have enjoyed music from soloists and groups of world renown, as well as those at the start of their careers. Past performers include oboist Leon Goossens, harpist Marisa Robles, flautist William Bennett, harpsichord player Virginia Black, ‘cellist Raphael Wallfisch, the Albion Ensemble, the Pavao Quartet, guitarist Craig Ogdon, pianist Iain Farrington, organist Gordon Stewart and ‘cellist Natalie Clein
We have been greatly helped in enlisting talented young musicians by the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, set up to sponsor up-and-coming players.
