Cedar’s Hall: A purpose built concert hall and Wells Cathedral School’s performing arts venue. It stages musical events throughout the year, including a series of monthly “Maestro” concerts, mainly classical, given by celebrated musicians who are invited to give master classes to the pupils. https://cedarshallwells.co.uk/
Concerts in the West: Founded by Sir Neville Mariner in 2006, it organises about nine short concert tours a year of classical music, with soloists or small chamber groups performing monthly on two successive days, usually at Bridport Arts Centre, Ilminster Arts Centre, and the Dance House Crewkerne, and occasionally at other venues. https://www.concertsinthewest.org
Curry Rivel Music: Founded by the Rev Canon John Simpson in 1979 it promotes four or five chamber music concerts between March and September each year in St Andrew’s Church, Curry Rivel. www.curryrivelmusic.org
Forde Abbey: A season of four chamber music concerts is presented between May and September each year at Forde Abbey, together with further occasional musical events. The extensive gardens are open for picnics prior to each concert. www.fordeabbey.co.uk
Milverton Concert Society: Founded in 1987, and under the honorary presidency of Melvyn Tan, the society promotes about four to six concerts a year, principally in St Michael’s Church, Milverton, andSt Andrew’s Church, Wiveliscombe, but also at other venues. www.milvertonconcert.org
Music on the Quantocks: Founded in 2009 it has organised numerous classical concerts featuring top ranking performers in towns and villages in and around the Quantocks Hills and West Somerset, including Taunton, Broomfield, and Crowcombe. Quantocks@live.co.uk
Somerset Chamber Choir: Founded in 1984 and rehearsing in Hambridge Village Hall, this amateur choir with about 80 members gives two concerts a year, in the winter or spring and in the summer, usually at King’s School, Taunton, and at Wells Cathedral. https://www.somersetchamberchoir.org/
Southern Sinfonia: Founded in 1995 by the late Sir Roger Norrington and based, as resident orchestra, at the Brewhouse Theatre Taunton, this professional chamber orchestra performs in a variety of sacred and secular venues in southern England with well known soloists and choral societies. www.southernsinfonia.org
South Somerset Choral Society: An unauditioned amateur choir, founded in 1966, and with about 80 members giving two main concerts a year, in South Petherton and Chard, of music from all periods of the classical choral repertoire, together with two Christmas Concerts. Wells Cathedral Oratorio Society: Founded in 1896, an auditioned choir with about 120 members giving three main concerts a year, usually in Wells Cathedral. It is under the directorship of Timothy Parsons, director of music for Wells Cathedral. https://www.wcos.org.uk
